MG Car Club Championships – Snetterton

Friend to Bridge Classic Cars, Tony Burgess of Wyatt Polishing in Thetford, attended the MG Car Club Championships this weekend and kindly sent us a few snaps.

Racing on the 300 circuit, the MG Car Club had all of its Championships in attendance, including the history-rich Cockshoot Cup. There’s a brilliant weekend to be had at this MG specific event, where guests can get up close to many a historic MG race car as well as watching them race too.

We’re big fans of the MG here at Bridge Classic Cars and have worked on many over the years.

One of our favourites was our 1947 MG TC we did a lot of restoration work on, you can read more about the project here.

Another favourite of ours was this gorgeous 1960 MG A. She came to us for a full restoration including paint, engine, interior and body work. Her owner was so chuffed with the restoration he’d written a poem especially for the occasion. You can read about all the work we did on this stunning MG A here.

We’ve even featured an MG in Bridge Classic Car Competitions. Our 1964 MBG Roadster was our first ever prize. Lucky winner Graham Haigh has since been enjoying his new Roadster throughout the summer.

Thank you to all the wonderful NHS staff and key workers across the country. We are immensely grateful for your courage, resilience and compassion in these trying times.

Stay safe, stay well and stay positive.

1964 MGB Roadster rebuild complete

Our 1964 MGB Roadster is rebuild is now complete and the car is now ready for resale.

MGB Roadster 1964. This car has been sympathetically restored by us here at Bridge Classic Cars including a full strip down and re-spray.

It has been professionally fitted with a five speed type 9 gearbox, upgraded shock absorbers, new interior, Mota Lita wooden steering wheel, alternator, coil, distributor and a new battery. It drives absolutely faultlessly, in fact I am yet to drive an MGB that drives as well as this does. Great oil pressure and temperatures read perfectly. The underside has been cleaned down and treated to under-seal.

This car is a beautiful example and immediately ready for any show. This is a 1964 car, chrome bumper and is a proper car.

It also comes with her original gearbox and all the original parts that have been modified.

We also have an original hardtop that can be purchased at extra cost. It needs a repaint but again is very serviceable.

Viewing by appointment only. Finance can be arranged by a third party. Office hours are Monday to Friday (Saturdays and Sundays can be arranged) 8am to 5pm. To arrange a viewing please call Craig on 01473 742038 or email info@bridgeclassiccars.co.uk

1964 MGB Roadster: Preparing For Paint

Darren is working on the final preparation of our 1964 MGB Roadster. We are looking to get things ready and in time for paint next week. The finish will remain in the original Old English White specification but will be completely transformed once the new re-spray is complete.

MGB preparing for paint

We are now preparing our 1964 MGB Roadster for it’s sympathetic respray. The colour will remain original and we are just looking to tidy the exterior of the car to give it a new lease of life.

You may recognise this very car as one that we marketed for sale earlier in the year. The current owner, like so many others we took calls from, fell in love with the car, hence why the car was only for sale for 24 hours with us. The current owner was keen to get her in our paint shop as soon as we could find space to have the exterior tidied.

MGB Roadster 1964. This car has been upgraded and it looks and drives superbly.

The “Good”:

  • It has been professionally fitted with a five speed type 9 gearbox, upgraded shock absorbers, new interior, Mota Lita wooden steering wheel, alternator, coil, distributor and a new battery.
  • It drives absolutely faultlessly, in fact I am yet to drive an MGB that drives as well as this does.
  • Superb soft-top.
  • Fully functional dials.
  • Great oil pressure.
  • Underneath the car has been under-sealed and is in excellent condition.
  • Chrome wire wheels.

The “Bad”: (we prepare concours cars so we are very critical but…)

  • The body is generally good with great paint but it does have small areas of unbroken paint corrosion.
  • This is all on the outside. The engine bay and boot area are lovely.
  • I personally think this could easily be a £15k + car with a respray, two new re-chromed or replacement bumpers, two new back lights, chrome air scuttle.

The “Not so good”:

  • It has had a stereo fitted and the head unit is good. The speakers however are not to ‘my’ taste. They are very big. There are too many and they stick out the door cards in a hideous way. That is just my opinion, the previous owner installed them and was happy with them. So everybody is different.
  • Two new door cards are cheap to rectify.
  • Front and rear valances look a but cruddy. Again cheap to rectify.

Because this was a part exchange and our current workload is so manic, we have decided to sell this lovely car as is and cheap enough for the new owner to sort all of the above if they want to.

We estimate that a £3,000 spend and you will definitely have that £15,000+ car.

This car is perfectly presentable as is and can really be enjoyed.

This is a 1964 car, chrome bumper and is a proper car.

She also comes with her original gearbox and all the original parts that have been modified.

We also have an original hardtop that can be purchased at extra cost. It needs a repaint but again is very serviceable.
