Repairing Our Damaged DB9

Our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 has been in the Bridge Classic Cars paintshop recently as the damage it sustained gets repaired.

Once the damaged areas were stripped and repaired, the paintwork in those areas was repaired too. After fully preparing the car and priming it, the previously damaged area was painted and, as you can see from the photos below, our DB9 is already looking like it’s on the way to a full recovery!

The DB9 returns…

Just before Christmas 2022, Molly made a call to Nick Jones with the amazing news that he was now the very proud owner of our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 with ticket number 1643.

In front of a live studio audience the Bridge Classic Cars Christmas party saw us give away not only my personal (Craig) Aston Martin but our 1985 Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet.

Soon after Nick was handed the keys to his Aston he became a fully-fledged member of the Aston Martin owner’s club and had a special set of bespoke Aston Martin colour-coded luggage commissioned too.

Unfortunately due to personal reasons, Nick contacted us with the sad news that he would need to let the car go but had thoroughly enjoyed his time with her. Originally planned to head to an online classic car auction Nick notified us out of courtesy to let us know of these plans. I gave it some thought (not for too long) and decided to make him an offer to have the car back.

The car is now back with me and I’m looking forward to another summer full of shows with my DB9 back!

Enjoying A DB9

Nick Jones was the lucky winner of our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 back in December last year. Since he took delivery of his new car, Nick has clearly been making the most of it, and recently sent us an update on how life as a DB9 owner has been going.

He has had bespoke luggage made for the Aston. It was made by Bagworld in Redditch and Nick is also getting a holdall made up too as there is enough room in the boot for a holdall to sit on top of the cabin bags he had previously made. A personalised number plate has also been added.

Nick told us that he is thoroughly enjoying the car and still can’t believe that it only cost him £15! Now that we have had two double winners, Nick continues to enter in the hope that he might one day be our third!

We love hearing from our winners and it’s always great to hear that they are loving the vehicles they won through Bridge Classic Cars Competitions.

Delivering Our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 To Its New Owner

We recently took a drive all the way from our Suffolk workshop to Cornwall to deliver our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 to its new owner – Nick Jones.

Nick was the lucky winner randomly selected in our live draw held on Thursday 22nd December 2022. His winning ticket number was 1643.

While we were on the road, we visited a very interesting place called Hawksfield. We enjoyed spending a bit of time here seeing the vintage and classic vehicles in various locations around the facility.

Winners Of Our Bonus Draw

As our 1991 Maserati Bi-Turbo Spyder E sold out so quickly and was drawn a week earlier than scheduled, we thought we would host a bonus draw last night (8th December).

We all had a lot of fun at the impromptu draw and we gave away some very cool prizes.

The bonus draw was a bit different to our regular live draws. Everyone who had purchased a ticket for either our 1985 Ferrari Mondial or our 2005 Aston Martin DB9 were automatically entered into the bonus draw.

Everyone eligible to enter was given a unique ticket number and the winners were selected, as usual, by the Google random number generator.

The prizes on offer were:

  • Double your odds – however many tickets you have purchased for our current live competitions will be doubled.
  • A Bridge Classic Cars T-Shirt
  • £250 site credit which can be spent on any current or future competition

This was Bridge Classic Cars Director, Craig’s personal car and it is a beautiful example of the DB9.

It has recently gone through a pre-delivery inspection with our experienced team of classic car technicians and it is now ready to be won by its new owner.

Creaky steering and wiper blade paint job!

September 15, 2022

Having had the steering rack refitted last week following it’s recent rebuild the car had developed a slight creaking sound whilst driving slowly over bumps.

Back in the workshops for further investigation showed one of the bolts had loosened itself so this has now been tightened and is awaiting a test drive. We hope this has resolved the issue.

Whilst in, we took the opportunity to remove the wiper blade and arm to have it blasted and painted.

The reason for this was that a slight dink in the original paint had started to progress into a bit of peeling.

Rather than it getting any worse, we have stripped it, repainted the arm to tidy up and prevent any further wear from happening.

Back and Better – Refurbished Steering Rack for the 2005 Aston Martin DB9

The steering rack from Craig’s 2005 Aston Martin DB9 has arrived back at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop after being refurbished by the amazing team at Re-Go Autoparts.

Re-Go (especially Gary) has been a massive help in the work we have done on the left-hand drive and power steering conversion of our 1970 Bristol 411. So, when Craig’s DB9 developed a power steering issue and leak the team gave them a call. After taking the rack out and sending it down to the Re-Go team, they stripped down the whole unit to find out what the issue was.

Upon inspection, the Re-Go team found a weakness in the material that makes up several seals inside of the power steering rack so when more pressure (more turning lock) was applied, part of the seal would fail and leak. So, they have replaced the seals with a new style and material and then checked/tested the rack before sending it back to the team here to get refitted to the DB9.

Coming Out – Removing the Steering Rack from the 2005 Aston Martin DB9

The 2005 Aston Martin DB9 has been in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop at our Suffolk HQ. The GT car has been up on the ramps to have its steering rack removed.

The power steering on the Aston Martin seems to have failed so it has been removed from the car in order to be inspected and assessed by a local, trusted specialist.

Re-Do – Refinishing the Wheels on the 2005 Aston Martin DB9… Again.

The more that we looked at the wheels on the 2005 Aston Martin DB9, they just weren’t right. But that’s okay! So, we decided to get them refinished… again.

Now the wheels are back, refinished in a slightly glossier version of the original satin chrome. They look absolutely sensational. Like they were brand new but even better.

Now, its time to enjoy the DB9 again!

A New Look – Wheels for the 2005 Aston Martin DB9 Refinished

The wheels for the 2005 Aston Martin DB9 have come back from refurbished by the guys over at WheelWorx.

The wheels for the DB9, which belongs to our Director Craig, have made their way back to the Bridge Classic Cars workshop to be fitted by WheelWorx master tech, Jamie. The wheels have been finished in a smoke grey, high shine finish to add a new look to the overall feel of this stunning Aston Martin GT car. Bridge Classic Cars have worked closely with the guys at WheelWorx for many years on projects that require wheel refurbishment or refinishing.

Now that the wheels are back onto the car, the DB9 will be cleaned and put away into storage until better weather.

Back in the Game – Refitting the Power Steering Pump to our 2005 Aston Martin DB9

Bridge Classic Cars in-house restoration technician Mauro has been working on refitting the power steering pump to Craig, our directors, 2005 Aston Martin DB9.

After the refurbished part arrived back to us here in Pettistree, Mauro began to get the component set up to go back into the engine bay alongside the famous 6 litre V12.

Carefully Mauro reinstalled the pump back onto the engine and began to close the hoses into the correct positions. After this, he methodically went through every clamp to ensure the seals were right and then topped up the fluid.

From there, it was tested by our in-house team and reinspected.

Just Like New – 2005 Aston Martin DB9 Power Steering Pump Refurb

Our director, Craig, noticed a slight leak coming from his 2005 Aston Martin DB9 recently. So, the team at Bridge Classic Cars set about looking into it.

Our in-house restoration technicians got the car in and began to check over all the systems and hoses in the engine bay. Soon, it was found to be from the power steering pump. Thankfully, these can be rebuilt/refurbished by specialists so it has been removed and sent off for the work to be done.

Aston Martin’s noisy bits

Mauro has been doing a little work on our 2005 Aston Martin DB 9. The panel that went from the rear seats to the parcel shelf in the middle was rattling so he took it all apart and adjusted the metal bracket that holds it in place.

DB9 Ceiling Lining

Kath and Brian have been working on recovering the ceiling lining in Craig’s Aston Martin DB9. Brian begun by undoing the side panels above the window and unclipping the headliner panel. He then removed the cover and foam so that he was able to glue the cover back down to the panel, making sure he glues the excess flap to the back. Once the headliner had its new cover, he could fit it back in place with Kath’s help.

We’ve now almost finished working on Craig’s 2005 Aston Martin DB9 which alongside its paint and trim work, needed the power steering addressing, the rear light replacing due to a leak, the driver’s door rubber seal replaced and the inside door handle mounts refurbishing.

The interior door handle mounts were previously worn and exhausted so we took them apart, cleaned them and repainted them so that now that look good as new.

Aston’s New Steering Solution

Paul has been working on Craig’s 2005 Aston Martin DB9 which recently showed some severe signs in its power steering. The bushings had been wearing on one side, showing that the power steering mechanism had been sitting unevenly. We are now endeavouring to solve this by replacing the bushings and bearings.

DB9 Aston Martin Seats Recovered

Kath has been recovering the seats in Craig’s Aston Martin DB9 which were looking worn and in need of sprucing up. They have now been completed after a few weeks of hard work addressing the worn interior. When we took this project to a recent show, we presented the passenger seat (the only one finished at the time) next to the car, and it was lovingly nicknamed the ‘ejector seat’.

Kath begun by removing the cover slowly. Prior to this, the airbags had been disarmed by Aston Martin. She then unclipped the handle mechanism and removed the airbag. After removing the retainers from the inside of the metal frame, Kath could then remove the squab which was held in place with velcro. She then removed the switches and cable ties, and gently pulled the cover out from around the wire. Once all the components were taken out, Kath could mark up the leather for the new cover.

Kath then began to unpick the leather parts and puts the retainers to one side to use later. For each leather cover, Kath will unpick, draw around the parts and make new pieces based on those patterns. She adds in Velcro and the retainers as she begins to remake all the covers. Working through all the squabs, bases and backrests of both the passenger and driver’s seat, Kath also had to sew on new pockets and seatbelt covers. The process of each seat was the same however the process of doing both needed a keen eye for detail to ensure the sleek stiff leather fitted perfectly along with the switches and airbags.

During the renovation of the driver’s seat, Kath amended the exposed metal bar on the bolster base and repaired the holes in the foam bolster.

New Paint On The DB9

Craig’s DB9 is currently in the paint shop undergoing some paint corrections after the epoxy primer was applied to treat a small amount of corrosion coming through around the door handles.

We’ve also fitted new door rubber and rear window rubber tightened up the rear centre mounted brake lights that were rattling, refurbish the tyres, re-upholster the seats, repair internal door pulls, remove parrot phone system, test and modify power steering and diagnose the shaking, fit new motors to the wing mirrors, adjust the driver’s window that squeak and scratches, fit new stone guard stickers to the wheel arches, remove both front headlights and strip both doors.

Matt has now moved onto polishing and flattening the paint to give it it’s final finish.

New Seats For The DB9

Craig’s Aston Martin DB9 is set to get some new seats as the trim shop begin on the task of freshening up the interior. Kath began by carefully removing the covers, un-cliping the handle mechanisms and then removing the air bag which had been previously disabled by Aston Martin themselves. Kath then removed the retainers out from the inside of the metal frame and take out the centre piece which was attached with Velcro. Once the squab was removed, she could then remove the switches at the base of the seat. Once this was done, she could untie the cable tires and gently pull the cover out from around the wires. The seats contain small retainers to hold the cover on as well as strips of velcro, such as down the centre. Kath then removed the heated panels from the base and squab and the seat belt clip cover.

With all the external pieces now removed, Kath can begin the same process on the other seat and recover them both.

Aston Martins At Stratton Motor Company

Craig popped over to the Statton Motor Company to disconnect the air bags in the seats of his Aston Martin DB9 ready for the seats to be retrimmed but whilst he was there he saw this DB2/4, identical to the one we’ve got in, so he took the chance to take some photos as reference for when we rebuild ours.

Craig, Director here at Bridge Classic Cars, has recently purchased this gorgeous V12 Aston Martin DB9. In need of a service and keen to preserve it’s full main dealer history, we sent our DB9 over to Nick and Kevin at Stratstone Motor Company of Long Stratton.

Aston Martin Arrival

Craig has recently purchased a new car which we’re sorry to say isn’t our next competition car. This beautiful modern Aston will be Craig’s new everyday car which will bring a dash of Aston class to our staff car park! Its come all the way from Southampton and was collected at the same time we dropped our Corvette off with its new owner. We love it when a plan comes together – two new happy owners in one day.

We expect to be doing a few touch ups on it however its not in need of anything major. The first step is a thorough service.
