1973 Rolls Royce Corniche

Chrome trouble with the Corniche.

We’ve recently been looking at the bumper on our 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche. It had been painted at some time in its life and so wasn’t looking fantastic. We took it to have the paint taken off but unfortunately, the bumper disintegrated in places. So we’ve decided to get a whole new chrome bumper in replacement.

Preparing for auction!

Are you new to the world of classic car auctions? We can take care of this for you. Here at Bridge Classic Cars we offer a complete auction preparation service. Today we have been preparing our gold 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche for auction!

The Rolls Royce will be at The Classic Sale at Silverstone, this Sunday, the 1st of August. Bids can be placed in the auction room, by phone, online or via commission.

Spare wheel cover for the Corniche.

Kath has been busy in the trim shop making a cover for the spare tyre for our gold 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche.

She started by cutting out black carpet in a circular shape for the top, and a long piece for the sides. Strips of black vinyl were then measured and cut. Kath sewed one of the vinyl strips around the outside edge of the circle of carpet. The vinyl was then folded under and sewn again along the edge of the carpet. This created a bound edge. She then created a bound edge on the long piece of black carpet, along one of the long edges and both the short ends. This long piece of carpet was then sewn onto the round piece of carpet, along the unbound edge, overlapping the two short ends. Pieces of velcro were sewn onto the underneath of the short ends, to make sure it stays together while wrapped around the tyre.

‘Top Gear’ Host Richard Hammond Is Selling Rare Cars and Bikes From His Private Collection

Source – Silverstone Auctions

Richard Hammond has put up eight of his vehicles to be sold by Silverstone Auctions at The Classic at Silverstone on Sunday 1 August. All proceeds are to support his new business venture The Smallest Cog, a classic vehicle restoration business that will be documented in Richard Hammond’s Workshop (working title), a brand-new original docuseries airing on discovery+ UK later this year.

“The irony of me supporting my new classic car restoration business by selling some of my own classic car collection is not wasted on me” stated Hammond. He went on to add “It is with a very heavy heart that they go, as they have a great deal of personal sentimental value, but they will be funding the future development of the business and giving life back to countless other classic vehicles.”

Several of the classics are personal favourites of Hammond, with classic and limited-edition motorcycles he bought himself for his 40th and 50th birthdays on offer, as well as a much-loved family heirloom in the 1959 Bentley S2.

The other lots include a stunning 1969 Porsche 911T, a 1927 Sunbeam Model 2 motorcycle, a classic 1999 Lotus Esprit Sport 350 which is number 5 of 48 built, a 1932 Velocette KSS Mk1 and a highly collectable 1977 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk1. The entire collection is being offered without reserve.

Separate to his private collection, a widely publicised and beautifully restored Ford RS2000 was also due to go under the hammer the same weekend, but Hammond has deferred the release of this vehicle until the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show Sale in September 2021 which will be hosted by Silverstone Auctions’ sister company, Classic Car Auctions (CCA). This is to allow more time for The Smallest Cog to complete the car to their exacting standards.

Nick Whale, Managing Director of Silverstone Auctions, added “We are delighted to have Richard both attending our sale on 1 August but also joining us on the rostrum to introduce the collection. These vehicles clearly have a special place in his heart, so I’m sure it is going to be a day of mixed emotions for him, but we are confident we can deliver a keen bidding audience that will do his new business proud, we wish him the best of luck.”

Alongside our 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche, the Classic Sale at Silverstone is taking place from Friday 30 July through to Sunday 1 August in The Wing Building at Silverstone. The Richard Hammond Collection will be offered from 2pm during the Sunday auction.

Behind The Scenes: Rolls Royce Corniche Photoshoot

Back in November, we headed over to Hintlesham Hall to photograph our opulent 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche with our friend Giles, who was our talented model and driver for the shoot.

This stunning gold and brown classic is a spacious and dreamy drive, perfect for the road trip and country get away.

This car is currently up for sale with us and could be yours! You can read more about it here.

For Sale: 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche

What better way to float along the road, than in your Willow Gold Rolls Royce Corniche.

A month or so back we went out to Hintlesham Hall to shoot this stunning Rolls Royce Corniche which we currently have listed for sale.

Sympathetically restored by Bridge Classic Cars’ master vehicle technicians, any poor condition metalwork has been replaced with fresh metal, prior to a full respray. We repainted the car in original Willow Gold but opted to complement this with dual-tone Wendy Brown lower sections.

The interior is a lovely place to be and we have completed no works in this area. The Magnolia seats piped in brown and the woodwork is aged to compliment the whole car. Comes with lambswool over mats. It also has the benefit of LPG but we have not tested this and it will be tested prior to sale. If required, we can remove the LPG system.

The 8-track player and radio are in situ.

The engine and gearbox are superb. There are no unwanted noises from anywhere on this car. She is silky smooth and changes gear effortlessly.

Although not required, it will be MOT’d prior to collection after sale. She has an extensive history and has covered just 71,000 miles from new.

You can find out more here.

Rolls Royce Corniche Body Preparation

All of the corrosion that has developed over the years has now been properly addressed. New metal has been let in where old metal has been cut out. All areas have been properly treated before the two-tone paint application has been applied.

Collecting our 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche

Today we visited the lovely town of Peacehaven, Brighton to collect our 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche.

The car will go through our workshops to be prepared ready for a place in our wonderful showroom.

More images will follow soon but in the meantime if you would like to know more about the car please feel free to get in touch.

If you have a classic to sell, we can offer this service for very modest commission rates. The commission will cover point of sale, liaising and front of house with all potential buyers, marketing and advertising worldwide and any warranty claims that may come out of the sale.
